Raising money through zorbing in Liverpool
Spartacus Events were honored to be asked to host a zorb football fundraising event for the amazing Charlie’s Chance last Sunday.
For anyone who doesn’t know the story about this brilliant fundraising effort it was set up by Rob & Sophie Ferns whose son Charlie, who is just 11 years old, has been fighting cancer since he was just 3.
After a third relapse a new appeal was set up in the hope of raising the necessary funds to send Charlie of to Seattle, USA for life saving treatment.
His story has inspired thousands of people in Liverpool & around the world to come together to support his cause and join the fight.
The fundraiser took place at Play Football in Thornton, Liverpool.
After watching videos on Facebook of Storm Doris sweeping into Liverpool on Friday and throwing people around the streets (in particular the ones in Bootle Strand – which I highly recommend you watch!) we were a little concerned whether she would be making an appearance Sunday, thankfully she left us alone and it was down to the Bubble Suits that people were getting thrown around rather than the storm!
A fantastic day for bubble football
This fundraiser was an open for all.
Considering the short amount of time Rob & Sophie had to promote it, there was a great turn out.
We had the little kids on a 5-a-side pitch and the big kids (adults) next to them on a 7-a-side pitch.
Mum’s, Dad’s, Nan’s & Granddads had great fun watching the little ones rolling round the floor and attempting to play games while zorbing.
We even got to witness Charlie’s bravery first hand watching him make a goal line clearance in his bubble suit – head first!
Over to the adults pitch were a nice crowd gathered to see the lads in what can only be described as a WWE Royal Rumble! People flying through the air, bouncing off the floor and crashing into one another, it was a spectacular sight and great entertainment for everyone watching.
All in all, it was a brilliant family day and we were able to help raise £585 for Charlie’s Chance.
From all the team at Spartacus Events we would like to thank everyone involved who helped volunteer to run this event, anyone who attended & people that donated – it made a huge difference and helped us create some very special & funny memories along the way.
The amazing news is Charlie’s Chance had an anonymous donation for the full amount over in Seattle, so Charlie will now get his much-needed treatment!
The fundraising movement still goes on; Rob & Sophie will be turning Charlie’s Chance into a charity to help families & children in the same situation to provide support and help get access to treatment.
Donations big & small all go to make a huge difference to people’s lives, so if you would like to donate you can do so on the link below…
